"The Race" [that wasn't one - IMS AZ Marathon] - Wiz Khalifa

Soooooooooooo
my
"it"
race . . . .

Ya, it wasn't "it".
[Thanks Albert]

Which was good & bad.

The good part is . . .

I didn't find out at mile 16, 20 or 22 it wasn't my race.
. . . I knew, 3 weeks prior, it wasn't going to be MY race.

and

I knew I'd get to meet the one and only Miss Zippy.  Her blog was one of the very first running blogs I ever followed . . . best. find. EVER.

and

That I'd get Racing Dawn here to stay with me for four days [which should have been 5 but whatever] ;)

The Bad . . .

Well, mostly that I was not, even remotely, feeling close to 100%

and

that I want this freaking "BQ like a man" thing pretty freaking bad.  I know I was "there" in my training in October/November [insert a huge . . . . uggggg]

And oh this other little thing . . . . .

that I'm slightly FREAKING competitive [with myself].

Anddddddddddddddd

just so I didn't wake up race day morning and TRY to race it . . . .

I. did. this.

What?
Most normal people destroy the backing off their race bib, right?!

So here we are race morning:

Normal:

And not quite as normal:
We did bump in to SR, staying warm in Basha's [smart girl].  Who kinda killed this course.  Congrats SR!

The weather was fabulous.  Like the most perfect of all perfects.

Some mid run photos:
Ya, thanks for this one Dawn. :/

After Dawn got her SUGAAA:

Shoulda been Twizzlers, just sayin'.

Here's the finish shot [thanks MOM!]

All. Smiles.

After the "after shot":

Not going to lie. . . . I teared up two times out on the course {anger/sadness} that this day wasn't my new PR day.  [kinda doesn't help when you've told other runners (that you get to know from other races) that this was going to be THE DAY.]

But this was what was best for this day.

I am beyond grateful to have a best friend by my side for the whole ride.

And parents who will always be there racing or not.  Always there to support me.

a l w a y s.

So while I'm not super sure "what's next" for me.

I do know . . .

1.  This was one awesome weekend
2.  I love this race/course
3.  I will still get my 3:0x
4.  I am one blessed woman
5.   ............ And this Ragnar with My Cholla Chicks this weekend, will be one big huge tutu, hairy man, pickle juice drinking . . . party!

Even if it wasn't the number you were wanting, you are still blessed with running in a way many can barely understand. (I know you know that is true). You will have that number, that magic number. Some times those "dreams" we have to wait for are simply made sweeter with time.

Amen Shellyrm!!! She put that perfectly!

And I would've taken a pic of you from the side or front but never quite caught you during the race. I should've taken one during your laps!💩

I know it was a hard weekend for you...but I loved it. So whatever. 😜 you'll get that manly BQ. No doubt in my mind.

And maybe we should start hanging out on non-race weekends too. Just a thought...

that man BQ is coming your way..I am thinking October 7 Long Beach CA would be a perfect day for that...

Wow the weather does look perfect in the pics! Hey, no biggie, we all can't be 100%, 100% of the time, ya know? You'll get that BQ like a man thing real soon! Especially when you come race with me one day!

You look fabulous in a running skirt I love it!

You will get your BQLAM (BQ like a man) this year. This race might not have been your day for it, but it is coming soon!

So sorry it wasn't your BQLAM day. But SO SO SO glad you had a great day with Dawn.

You know it's just a matter of time, right? You have to KNOW that (like we do!)...

I've got a nice MN race for you ;) It's a beautiful PR course....

And there is PROOF that you are all smiles......

Good to see that you enjoyed the race despite what you may have wanted. Making the best of a bad situation is why you are as awesome as you are.

Great to see you enjoying the race with Dawn. The BQLAM will come - there is no doubt about that! And when all the stars align it will be awesome ;)

What an amazingly honest post. Not every race is "our day" and it's so admirable of you to not even try to go for it. Smart. But on the bright side, you LOOK fabulous, as always! And looks like you had fun... :)

you are my favorite- just fyi

I am sorry that you didn't get your PR but happy you got to run with friends and enjoy the day!

You'll get your day. For Sure!

Love your attitude!! I need some of that! You look beautiful mama!

As much as it sucked not to have a great run, at least you could see the positives afterwards. It cant always be a PR but we can always find something to put on the plus side if we look hard enough. So glad you got to run with Dawn.

So sorry it couldn't be the race you wanted it to be, but at least you got to hang with Dawn!

And, girl, you look smokin' hot in that skirt. Can I be you when I grow up?

This was so great to read; you know you've been on my mind after our texts and I know one day - SOON - you will get that manly PR and oh how sweet that will be!! Until then, enjoy each and every day with a huge smile ... you are truly loved!

And I'm with Dawn...let's get a girls' non running weekend away somewhere!! How fun would that be!

Let me leave you a comment to make you happy...

You are so right in saying that not every race is right to race, some days are just not cut out for you to race, then on those day you have to change tactics and find that friend to run with...

Just finishing another marathon is already more than most can ever do. So well done! You will have lots of 100% runs still so don't worry. Meeting Ms Zippy! She was also one of the first blogs I follwed as well. There are so many people I want to meet when I finally make it to your side of the world.

Sorry it wasn't your day but you totally have the right attitude! Glad you had a great run, and your PR is coming soon I'm sure :) Keep smiling!

Unknown said...

You look super cute! Probably doesn't make you feel any better about it, but I needed to tell you that! Your 3:0x is coming soon... keep smiling!

Bummer that the race didn't really work out. It would be hard to top last year's performance where you set your PR though.

Glad that you got to hang out with Ms Zippy and Dawn! Your Kings of Leon shirt looks awesome! I want one, lol

And great pics!
