Garage Sale or Bake Sale? Peanut!!!

So bake sale or garage sale..... Which one would you choose?

My mom said that when she had a garage sale, she had only recieved $20.
I bet I could get more. I mean who couldn't deny this face?!?!?

I want to make money for Catalina Island, which is a trip that the 6th graders at my school take every year.

Exept, They didn't tell us it was $500-600!!!!!

I am so mad and I cannot lie.

I mean WHO COULD AFFORD THAT?!?!
I hate dislike these teachers.

And as if that isn't enough it's only TWO stinking DAYS LONG!!!!!

So what do you think?  Which way do you think I could earn more money from?

GARAGE OR BAKE SALE?

Put your vote in already!!!!!

What are you waiting for?!!?!!!

Hurry up!!!!!

Wasting daylight here!

PEANUT OUT.

bake sale :) Good luck Catalina is fun!

Depends. Are you going to be selling old dirty gym clothes at your garage sale or unique hard to find antiques? The value could be drastically different! :-) I vote for a combo. A garage sale with baked goods for those who are just "tagging" along! Good luck and that is a ridiculous $$$ for a 2 day trip..

Bake sale! Everybody has to eat, and a majority of people cannot resisted baked goods.

Not everybody needs old knick knacks for decoration.

There is no limit to how many cookies one can eat, but there is a limit (or should be) to how many porcelain puppies a person should own.

Just sayin.....

Bake sale. I know a lot of bloggers (me!) that love all things baked. Just be sure to include postage in your prices and you'll be kickin' it on Catalina in no time.

I agree completly wih the combo! PEANUT

combo for sure. get your neighbors in on it too...

but don't sell the buckle.

Ummm Emz [not peanut] interjecting here...she even sets foot in my closet & there will be problems. Huge. Ones.

It really depends. If you have big ticket items (like furniture and TV), then go garage sale... otherwise it's doubtful you'll make much on old toys and clothes. Now if you bake something you could send in the mail... now THERE'S an idea!!! I want some!

Michelle said...

Definitely go the combo route...and if you can get your neighbors involved...the more stuff to sell the better! And Peanut I'd stay out of your mom's closet :)

My son did the Catalina trip last year in sixth grade. It was AWESOME! I think the combo deal is the way to go. You sell of your junk for cheap and then jack up the prices on the baked goods... and they will not be able to deny that adorable face :)

silly aunt sarah said...

garage sale, especially if you have good "junk". but a cute Peanut face selling baked goods can help. also... i am not a Candle-lite rep but you should look into their fund raising. if you do one(for whatever, new shoes, big party, TRIP) you get 50% of the total. pretty sweet and seems like less work. good luck! and really I am NOT A REP.

I would buy anything your Mom made....(I am assuming she would be the chef). The combo idea certainly makes a lot of sense. I know you have lots of "stuff" that would bring good prices. Start early as others may have the same idea.

If you are into "washing cars", Papa pays good $$$ for detailing his vehicles.

FOR SURE garage sale. I have done both. And ask family, friends, neighbors, etc. to donate good things to sell. LOTS Of people have a couple of nice things they don't want/need and would sell, but don't want to bother will the work of a garage sale so will donate things for you to sell. We raised $2000 for an adoption doing a sale like this.
And, your mom could bake some things and you could have a bake sale table at the sale. People get hungry when they shop. The bake sale will make a little money but not as much.
Good luck!!

I like the mailing idea alot mabye i could start doing that too!

I will wash cars Nana [as long as its now 110 degrees outside.].

I dont want anything out of my moms closet, NOTHING. Besides I am wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too nice to sell the buckle.

Bake sale for freaking sure especially if that cake will be there.

Emz said...

Shutup can I call you that?it's the cake my mom makes like every day. But yes it's good.

You know where my vote goes - baking!! But that's just me. If you want some tried and true recipes just let me know.

Caroline said...

She makes cake every day?
Emz can you adopt me?

Can't you just run 24 hours on a treadmill again? That sounds easier to me than either a bake sale or a garage sale. :)

Erica said...

I have an even better idea! Ask your mom to do another 24 hour treadmill run to fundraise for the trip! And also auction off a giant gummy bear! :)

Samantha said...

garage! but i would def rather ATTEND a bake sale :)

Danielle C. said...

I would do the combo route! Sell cookies and brownies at your garage sale!

Gracie said...

Bake sale. Flour and sugar and cheap and everyone will gladly pay for dessert!

Angela said...

what about a bake sale at your garage sale?!

Melissa Cunningham said...

do the combo! asking family/friends/neighbors to donate items for the garage sale will help get more stuff to sell...add in some yumm-o baked goods, and whoo-la!dont forget some ice cold drinks as well---the wy this heat is acting u,you will make at least$100 alone on bottle water!
:D
let us know what you decide to do!!!

Vanessa @ Gourmet Runner said...

Pricey trip for 2 days, wow!!
I say do both! Have a garage sale, but sell some drinks and one or two baked goods as well.
:)

Emz said...

peanut here,

I am thinking about also doing different kinds of lemonade too with the combo of the garage and bake sale.

We could have different kinds of the lemonade like fizzy and pink lemonade.

Sarah said...

I think a garage/bake sale. Although garage salers tend to be really, really cheap. We did have some buy lemonade though when they wouldn't buy brand new infant clothes for a dollar.

Amy said...

Both! People that come for the baking might pick up something at the garage sale, and people that come for the garage sale won't be able to say no to the treats! Throw a little lemonade in there, and you're in business!

Jamie said...

I think both would be really fun! Get creative with it! :)

The Ludlam Family said...

My daughter and I vote for the combo also...double the money!

Patrick Mahoney said...

Sell baked goods on Ebay. It will definitely expand your reach past the neighborhood. I'm sure that shipping foodstuffs without some sort of permit breaks any number of laws but you aren't 18 yet so who cares? Just make it so your parents maintain plausible deniability so they don't get in trouble either.

Caratunk Girl said...

I think you could do a combo! I mean, you get rid of stuff you don't want and make money, and you could sell baked goods too, because shopping makes me hungry.

Cold bottled water on a hot day sells great at yard sales. If you buy it when it goes on sale you can charge double for what your investment is. If you take fliers to friends and family a month or a couple of weeks before the sale asking for items to donate, that works well. Don't get discouraged, you may have to do more than one day or more than one yard sale to reach your goal. Another idea---Your mom will shoot me for suggesting this. My cousin's boy did this to raise $$ one year at Thanksgiving time. He went around the neighborhood and took orders a week or two before, for homemade pies. Then the week of Thanksgiving he and his mom and all the siblings made 45 pies to sell. He made a ton of money doing that. It was a project for Scouts and he was able to donate $300 to the food bank because of his hard work. Read about it here
http://wereallalittlenutty.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archives.html You wouldn't have to do it on Thanksgiving week if you didn't want to, do the bake sale by taking orders of a few specialty items. Maybe a specialty dessert for Labor day weekend, or Halloween cookies or apple crisp when the weather turns cooler and apples go on sale cheap

So many great ideas...I like the baked goods and lemonade at the garage sale idea! :)

Peanut--you are freaking adorable!! Rockin out at a young age!

I like the combo as well. Emz, with your ebay savvy-ness and Peanut's selling ability, you two can knock this out. Then, Pita can intimidate consumers to purchase!

Bake sale, hands down.

Garage sale - and ask family and friends to donate some gently used "junk" for the sale since it's going to a good cause.

We've had luck selling cookies or muffins with a very HIGH mark up at our garage sales...coffee, too.
