the human brain weighs 3 pounds

Oh, to be a fly on the wall inside my brain.

The things that fly would see.

This weekend, I found an old favorite on iTunes.  "What are you waiting for?"

I now realize that I lose all control [ok, not "all"] over my body when I hear this song.  Like clock work, it starts playin' and my booty starts shakin'.

AS I probably note frequently . . .

I'm
an
over-thinker.

But lately, every time I hear this song, I think what am I WAITING FOR

I'm one of those girls who said a lot of things like this growing up . . .

. . . . I can't wait until I turn 16.  I can't wait to get a car.  I can't wait graduate from high-school.  Can't wait until I go to college.  Can't wait until I find Mr. Right.  I can't wait to have kids.

and I still do it today . . . [more than I'd truly care to admit] . . .

Can't wait until the house is paid off.  Can't wait until our 15th anniversary.  Can't wait until I get pregnant [again].  Can't wait until I run my 3:20 marathon.  Can't wait until I get a weekend get-a-way with my sisters. . . . . etc.

So while I was dancing around shaking my backside I thought, if I keep sitting on my bum waiting for these thing to happen - - - it's going to get pretty sore.

"Life is what happen when you are busy making other plans" - Thank you Mr. Lennon, I have come to understand just how true that is.  Yes, I believe God will step in and help us out with the direction we're headed but our agency & daily decisions sure have a hand in where we end up, too.

So what are you waiting for?  Is there something you really want?  Will things be better when you get it?

Well, then . . . . what are you waiting for?

I'm totally with you on this one. I am such a planner that I am often getting lost in what is going to happen or what could happen instead of what IS happening. Thanks for the reality check!

I can't wait to run a 100 mile race, maybe we could team up on that one! I'm like you things just can't happen fast enough, but of course many things need to be aged in order to be extra tasty or tender, sometimes I use this to remind myself that patience is an OK thing to have. Cheers!

Found myself asking myself a similar question this weekend with regards to signing up for my next marathon. Working through my knee issues I kept saying I'd wait until I felt like it was going to recover. Lately I'm feeling some heel pain that is most likely plantar fasciitis starting to creep in, so now I'm talking myself into waiting to see what that is going to do before I signup. Not sure why I keep creating hurdles for myself when I really enjoy pushing myself in training, and know I want to run another marathon. Guess I don't want to commit and then get disappointed. Time to signup and git 'er done.

I have gotten much better at not waiting but just sitting and enjoying. This is a recent change. I weaned my 4th son a couple of months ago and it has been so strange to realize that my baby and little fella days are in the past. It went by far too quickly. I have evolved into a stage of motherhood and all that entails.

I have also realized that when I wait so hard for something to come or an event to get here, most of the time when it does happen, the intensity is so great that I am left thinking "WTF was I thinking!"

Its hard being chill though and I have to work at it!

Oh this is a great post! I am a bit guilty of waiting for things to happen and looking forward to the future, but being lazy about the steps I need to take to get there. I'm working at being more efficient.

ps. Have a great trip!!!

As a military wife I feel like I am waiting my life away.........

I try to take control but feel like I have none so I wait. I hate waiting. HATE it. Maybe one day I will wake up and be tired of waiting...I kind of decided to live each day and appreciate it because I found by being excited for things in the future I was not only wishing my life away but my son's too. That sounds crazy but when I say "I can't wait until my hubby comes home." I think about it and realize my son will be 5 then and I have just wished 9 months of his life away. I want him to stay small and and cute and silly forever...so the "can't wait" started to annoy me. So I am working on patience and enjoying today...

great post! I have to go listen to that song now!

P.S. and good to know that my brain is 3 pounds. That is three pounds I will never lose!

I used to be the queen of "I can't wait". Lately I've been much better about it. I doing a lot more living in the present, mostly because I can't figure out what I want to happen next. So, I'm avoiding dealing with my uncertainty by focusing on the day I'm in. It's a new and unusual feeling for me...

Great post and a great reminder - spent so much of my life up until recently driven by "I can't wait until". The past few months I'm trying to live now, to work on where I need to be now and what I need to do now. It's hard, but good. We're watching and listening Emz!

Great song and great post! I have been trying to focus on living in the now and not constantly wishing my life away. I'm most guilty of "I can't wait for the weekend."

Great post! I'm a total planner and sometimes it gets the best of me. I need to live in the moment more and not stress if something does or does not get done.

Hmmm...I can't wait to go on a long bike ride this weekend! :)

Just wanna say I really enjoy your blog :)

I've been very much "in the now" lately. I haven't been thinking my "I can't wait until's" for a while now. And then I sorta woke up, startled, thinking "omg, my dreams, my plans, I need to look over everything to make sure I'm on track!!! "

surgery, recovery, running again, Boston, ironman - that's in sports

happy marriage, kids - that's in personal life

a masters degree, career growth - that's in professional life

aaaah, thinking about all this makes me happy... after a break, of course.
