my no guilt version - sweet potato fries

So while I think my eating while training could certainly be "better".

love food.

I enjoy food.

[not always of the "healthy" type].

Had to laugh when a fellow runner [during January's R&R AZ Marathon] came up beside me and said, "ya, so when was the last time you had a burger?".

I smiled [thought very briefly] and said, "Thursday.  In-N-Out burger."

I'm a burger girl.

I wasted five [if not more] years of my life.  stressingaboutfood.  - - - so stupid.

However, I will say I became a pretty dang good cook during this time.  I was such a control freak about what I ate and wanted to know what exactly was "in" my food.  [fat, carbs, etc]

If possible, I feel I am too relaxed now [especially while I am training] but I do enjoy what I eat regardless if it is "Healthy" or not.

Here is a recipe I've been enjoying for the last year or so.

Typically, I don't like to alter recipes I love.  Normally, I'd just choose to eat them less but I tried this out in early 2009 and have been making it almost weekly, ever since.

But you cannot forget to make the dipping sauce!!

Spicy Sweet Potato Fries [easy]!!

Toss 2 pounds sweet potatoes (cut into thin strips or wedges) with 2 1/2 tablespoons olive oil, 1 teaspoon brown sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 1/4 teaspoon each cumin and chili powder, and a pinch of cayenne. Roast on a large baking sheet [the larger the better - as it is best to NOT have them touching each other] in a 425 oven until crisp, 30-35 minutes, turning about two times during baking.

Now for the awesome part.

Aioli mustard dipping sauce:

1 cup light/reduced fat mayo [I have tried fat free - NOT recommended]
3 Tablespoons aioli garlic mustard [I use the Trader Joe's one]
2 packets Splenda
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

*This most likely will make more than you will need but it keeps in the fridge really well.*
e n j o y !

What's your favorite food that's not usually ever found in the "you should eat this while training" handbook?! ; )

Mmm, I love to eat! Burgers...yummy.

I *love* SP fries! I oven roast them at home in olive oil & salt, but I love the added spices. DEFINITELY gonna try this! Thanks, girl!

I am going to try that. I have a love hate relationship with food. I tend to binge and blow up and then lose the weight. Or try to.

Love the recipe, and I will try it. I have made oven fries before with lackluster results.

There is this burger chain here in Houston called, "Smash Burger" ... they offer them on a whole grain bun so maybe once a month or so I will stop and get a whole grain smash burger ... I know, I know ... I'm a complete lame-o when it comes to eating ... that is about as crazy as I get!

Those look wonderful! We ate sweet potato fries for a while and then switched to different kinds of potatoes and now this reminds me that a change would be just what I need!

Btw, I'm keeping this recipe! I WILL be making these soon!

These look fab. I have a food related confession. I am obsessed with mayonnaise. Like I can't eat a sandwich without embarrassing amounts of it and I wont even bother with light mayo. It's not even close. Will be making this with regular mayo soon!

In n Out=guilt! I had my first one in years and years on Saturday and I have to say, it wasn't what I remembered it to be. I'm NOT a burger girl but I did LOVE the french fries. I'll need to try your recipe, it looks a tad bit healthier than In n Out fries!

Hey there! Just discovered that you run in a lot of Arizona races! Very cool, I'm from Tucson and plan on doing a few of the ones that you ran. Also, sweet potato fries are pretty much the best kind of fries. :)

Yum...I love sweet potato fries, but will have to try your recipe!

And for a something I eat that I really shouldn't during training; twix, anything chocolate and peanut butter, and sweedish fish. I don't indulge very often, but every once in awhile I get an intense craving for something sweet and those are what I go for! :)

How did I miss the "When was the last time you had a burger?" comment during the marathon? Granted, I was a little self absorbed, but I would have gotten a kick out of that. I didn't miss the "I want to be at your 'pace'" runner though. Thanks for the recipe.

The food that I shouldn’t eat but Is always around is probably beer. That stuff is like drinking 4 (ok, maybe 6 or 7) regular cokes in one sitting.
