Did I know what it really was? No.
Did I know the right people to ask? Heck ya.
I mentioned Jason yesterday [tri-guy + awesome cook].
Now there's Jeff. Yep, IRONMAN Jeff.
a-FREAKING-mazing.
So they helped me sort out the details.
I understood.
Bike THEN run.
but that wasn't going to work with today's schedule sooooooo.......
The "reverse brick" was born.
So I jumped on the treadmill for 9 miles at a 7:30 pace.
literally, threw on dry clothes . . . . Nascar'd my way down Shea Boulevard . . . . parked at the gym . . . . set up my bike . . . .
. . . . and waited all 3.44 minutes for class to start.
[omgosh there's a foot in this photo?!....gross . . .you bet cha I'm using the . . . RUN EMZ towels from 24 hour TM run!]
Yep. same. freaking. awesome. spin. instructor. from Tuesday. night.
Yep. . . . she got in my sweaty
totalandcompleteawesomeness [that's for you Dawn].
So as soon as we "finish" the one hour class. I put my bike up and race up the stairs for a bit. Figured I could get one mile in before I needed to be showered and presentable.
HOLY.
f r e a k i n g .
Noodle.
Legs.
So lesson learned.
Took me almost 1/2 mile to "find" my legs. Did one mile at 9:30 pace.
Brick and reverse Emz-style brick do NOT equal the same thing.
but the best freaking workout I've had in a Loooooooooooooong time.
Nothing but MAD respect for you triathletes out there.
you. guys. rock.
Do you brick?
Do you bonk?
Do you noodle?

I'm first! YAY!
I brick... multiple times a week actually!
this is freaking amazing.
sooooooo your body learns to love it - or no? :)
i havent bricked in a while....i dont find it quite as amusing as you do haha! im noticing a theme...biking, bricking....are you up to something????
LB. I hope. An indoor tri?! ;)
BTW love the new photo!!
I brick on consecutive days... bike on one day, run the next :P I call it a "lego".
Lego. Love. That.
I'm bricking a lot these days. Gotta get ready for August. Sunday will be 2.5 hours of riding followed by 30minutes of running. Yep, legs are jello.
Asisitheresippingmyawesomeshake... I've been thinking about adding some bricks in. I love crazy hard workouts. What's wrong with us?
So is this going to be a weekly staple? I think it sounds great!!
Maybe u should try it with ... Might take care of the noodle factor.
I brick twice a week. In fact, I bricked today (1h30m bike/35m run) and did some yoga after that. Such a good workout session today.
Congrats on your first brick! Keep it up. Best workouts ever.
Waa-Hoo....next up is a swim/bike brick. Waa-Hoo....
When you start it is always going to be noodle legs for the first 0.5 miles and then it gets easier and easier.
Soon enough you will be able to run those 7:30s after riding the bike.
If you want to confuse the heck out of your legs, bike first, then rollerskate. Weeeeeeee!
I think that spin class would kill me. My legs even feel like noodles after Wii Fit. :-D
Yay for doing your first brick! That's so awesome! And, I can totally relate to the noodle legs. But, they do get less noodley the more bricks you do! :)
I have not... also didn't know what it was till this post...
Love learning all these new things...
I ride my bike at a leisurely pace to run around the reservoir near our house. Does that count as bricking? who knew?
I don't brick because I only run. When in peak training I certainly bonk and noodle...often.
Oh, and the one gym group here in SA have an indoor tri series every year.
Oh, and (sorry my mind is not healthy today) they do the indoor tri in reverse. Run, bike, swim.
A reverse brick, interesting concept!! I've never done one because that would mean I'd have to get on a bike.
I love brick workouts and yes I bonk, noodle and anything else you can think up!
Congrats on your first!
Once again, Emz, you totally inspire me. I might just have to give the brick a try. Since I'm knocking Doc orders anyways, may as well have some fun. It is fun, right? Right?
Run on. And then bike. Oh, and take a swim.

I brick every now and again - usually on a Sunday morning after a ride. The feeling is a little cool and a little freaky.
Yes.
No.
No.
:)
I said a long time ago that you would end up doing a triathlon or duathlon, looks like it might be coming true
Oh Bricks! They do not make me happy but they are necessity in training! I'm getting at "finding" my legs more quickly but there are those days when I feel like I've got bricks attached to my feet.
Great job!
BDD. Made. Me. Smile.
welcome to the darkside
why can't I comment on the previous post? Cause ya know, ya made me cry and all.. you and peanut, amazing!!!
I know I'm supposed to be at the other blog but let's face it, I'm lucky to have gotten here at all today.
Is it beer o'clock yet?
You're too humble to mention the audible gasp the whole class made when you left and we were all told that you were going to run a marathon next week. EXCEPT for me. I cheered.
And I forgot to mention that the foot in the picture. Totally disgusting. How could anyone undress their feet in that petri dish of germs? IF in desperation I had to do that, I would have stood on a towel. That is just ewwy.
I want to (eventually) become a triathlete, but I"m scared of brick. Which makes me want to do it more.
Now if only I owned a bike.
