"Friends forever" - Vitamin C

Friday.  was.  awesome.

I got to see my VERY, VERY best childhood friend.  For sure my BF.  I have only seen her 3 times in 11 years [including Friday in the "3"].  sad.  and.  dumb.

Why?  Because we live about 30 miles away from eachother.

We did everything together.  Everything.

We never officially "met".  Our Mom's were best friends.  We were raised together.
Yep, she's the cute one on the right.  I was one month old - she was two and a half months old.  Yes, I weighed like 24 pounds more than her at birth and through out our childhood.

Our Mom's worked together/wrote MAM cookbooks together throughout their/our lives [with another awesome woman/family].

Our families were inseparable.

Look at this group.  Enough for a freaking huge family reunion.  And it's only three [busy] families.

S.A.W [my BFF's initials] she got cool initials.  and a series of awesome creepy movies named after her.
ME:  "EE", ya, thanks Mom & Dad.
But it's okay, I turned into "ET" which is pretty sweet.  And I know have a Katy Perry Song named after me.  awesome.

So lunch was awesome.  tears.  happiness.  sharing.  just like old times.  Same S.A.W. as ever.  Oh except that now, we have 5 kids between the two of us.  Yes, she has four.  And she brought the most beautiful blue eyed "M" with her [9 months].

Crazy.  Just amazing how much things have changed since the day my parents & I left Glendale, AZ [mid-high school --- ugggg] for Scottsdale, AZ.

But some things never change.

We sat there sharing some drama, some hurt, some serious talk, some laughter, some excitement, some accomplishments & some tears.  Each of us surprised at how the other had gone through, coped with, dealt with some trials and some losses.

But in the end it was the memories we shared together that were the fondest.

Summers swimming.  grocery shopping with our moms.  working out with our mom's using cans of beans and soup as weights.  running on water in her backyard.  Being able to quote lines from Farris B. & Top Gun.  volleyball teams.  tortillas with cinnamon and butter.

Good times with my best friend.

I am thankful.

Bowling for Soup had a song named after you before Katy Perry.

I know how it is to move during high school. Twice. And one of them was to Mexico City.

It's awesome you've been friends that long.

I am thankful today too. And emotional. So it was nice to read a happy post. Thanks.

Mooshy - awesome. Let me guess it was their song called "A-hole"?

Candice - hoping your day gets better. Smiles and hugs from sunny AZ!

I love the old photos! Awesome!

And the inital thing. Great!. I like things like that. My oldest is S.A.M., middle one A.R.C last one M.A.C. If you put them together (first inital only) S. A. M. Can you guess the name of an important role modle in my life?...(add in my Hubbs and I, S. and M. and you start to spell his last name! Yeah, I love my Daddy!)

Childhood friendships do bridge the gaps of time.

30 miles? Ummm...didn't you just run 50 miles the other month...for a buckle?
I mean - it's a nice buckle...don't get me wrong...prolly even the nicest buckle I've ever seen....but couldn't 3 times in 11 years be something that could be fixed?
Just think of the good times.
What about you organize a 30 mile run to her house?

Oh man, I was loving Q's comment then I did something stupid and read under Q's comment.

Really Kovas? A cow? At least you could have said a horse.

Anyway

done. I'm doing it. I'm running to her house one day after 1/29. Or Let's say before March 1st.

So glad you could meet up with S.; I love the picture of the two of you together . . . you two definitely were inseparable . . .

Sorry, I have to comment one more time . . . a total blast from the past looking at that picture remembering that stretchy gold belt of moms. We used to use it all of the time when we used to play dress-up! I love remembering things like this--love remembering things that may be so insignificant to others, but such a big deal to me . . . so, thanks! :)

YAY Emz family in the house!!! THANKS K FAM.

The past [OUR past] rocks.
Dad's shirt with the eupaulettes.
"I'm a Pepper" t-shirt.
Happy's hair - not even moving in the wind. [thanks aqua net!]
Love YOU!!!!!

Glad to be called "Momma 2" by SAW. Sounds like you had a great time. Wish I could have had a good visit with her Mom. Miss her.
That picture day was awesome. I remember wishing Tupperware would take our picture on a beach in a beautiful tropical setting or something prettier than "Thunderbird Park". But it turned out nicely.

Love the photos, love the childhood friends. So important - so wonderful you can still connect. Don't mourn what hasn't been - just reconnect. I think you need her back in your life!

sounds an awful lot like my childhood...:) only i got stuck with boys in my age group. :)

That is really great! I have a true friend like that. And even though you may not see or speak to them in a VERY long time, it feels like no time has passed at all!

Right on, giving a shout out to your BFF since birth :)

So nice that you were able to reconnect. I've been doing a bit of that lately too, and it makes one wonder why we wait so long. But, as you would know .... "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Emz said...

Petra- you nailed it. And you are so right. I do "need" her. :)

Molly said...

ha! soup cans for weights! I think I read that eons ago in Seventeen magazine! : )

Emz said...

ETR - am love - love - loving that! ;) "he'll keep calling me, he'll keep calling me until ill come over. He'll make me feel guilty. This is ridiculous, ok I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I'll go..."

Awesome. Your comments rock.

Emz said...

Molly - ya. I AM like eons old. And our mom's they were "crafty". ;)

My initials were BM. Thanks mom and dad.

Glad you and SAW had fun together. I love weaving together pieces of history like that. It's the coolest.

run4may said...

Gotta love BF's. Sounds like you need to make it a point to get together more often- 30 miles isn't nearly far enough to rarely see each other (Just saying).

Emz said...

SU&R - BM - it was a sign. Freaking love that.

run4May - most agreed. 150 miles isn't enough to see each other THAT rarely. :) thank you for the comment!

Melissa Cunningham said...

yay for childhood friends reconnecting!!! hopefully yall can be able to spend more time together, more often!

:)

Great stuff. Glad you got to share that time with her. I am seeing my childhood BF in two weeks for a girls getaway. We live about 4 hours apart and haven't seen each other in over a year--the longest we have gone. I can't wait to catch up with her!

Jenn said...

My husband has a coworker whose nameplate says B.J. Queen. Dead serious!!! 24 pounds-lol!! Good friends, hard to come by. So worth the time and effort!!

TMB @ RACING WITH BABES said...

So awesome. I have several friends like that. I often wish I made more effort to reconnect. Hope the two of you can make it a more frequent occurrence.

Jason said...

That is awesome that you got to spend this time together. It is not cool that it has been so few and far between especially b/c you live so close but the fact that you get to share the moments as if you see each other everyday is really awesome.

There is nothing like having friends like this in your life.

Tell S.A.W. to go to Hobby Lobby and get a jelly jar cap and make it into a buckle for when you run there you have a treasured buckle that will mean more then the 50 miler.

Emz said...

Jason. Loving. That. How'd you know I'd most likely be sure I did it if a buckle was "in play"?!

Jason said...

We will be doing that for the participants in our marathon program when they cross that 5k finish line I will set up for them.

And well....you wouldn't be EMZ if you wouldn't do the run for a buckle now would you? Maye mail her the RUNNERS shirt ahead of time this way when you get there you can have the buckle and the shirt and get a great finishers photo at the same time.

Emz said...

Jason. You. Understand. Me. To. A. T. [shirt].

Jason said...

Well I am tentatively putting IMAZ on my schedule for 2012 so if we can stay friends until then maybe we can 'meet' each other.

If you can do it with SAW for all this time you can be my friend for that long......I am fairly easy to get along with.....just don't ask my first wife.

Emz said...

Jason. 2012. Easy. Peasy. ;)

Sarah said...

I love how your moms are wearing the same blouse. :-D Awesome you got to see your best friend.

At risk of losing a whole grip of man points, this is the E.E. Cummings quote I would have picked to describe this post:

I have a friend like that ....aren't they the best? Except she lives 16 hours away noinitials maiden nsme initials EAW.....which reminds me of eeeewwwwwww! At least you have a song!

I love your blog! That is awesome you got to hang out with her! Are you in Utah? Top of Utah was my PR too...great race!

Emz said...

Ajh - thank you!! When do I start to freak?!

HRG- hi!! Thanks for the comment. :) I'm in AZ. :) / :(
I've run TOU 2x. But my PR was actually the foot traffic flat in Oregon. ;) I think my wording is a bit off.

Patrick Mahoney said...

You had a happy day with an old friend from childhood, yes? Well on the surface it could be read as a very innocent child-like description of fun. Maybe there is some nefarious double meaning, I dunno. I found it on the interweb, that's all.

Emz said...

Patrick. Nefarious?! Lost. Yet. Again. Please speak blonde English.

Lee said...

Love that baby pic - and the Moms have matching bows on their blouses!
My mom's initials are VDD eeks! double dose - mine were LVD - lots of VD aggh - Now I'm just LOH.

Patrick Mahoney said...

like, OMG, nefarious means "wicked".

You know what there is always my comment on tomorrows post where you and I can get back on track. I went way out on a tangent trying to best Kovas and perhaps it was ill advised.

Lee said...

or I should say LVH

Emz said...

Lee - hilarious. Better than just DD, I guess.

Patrick - love it. It's nefarious. How else will I ever learn if you don't teach me big kid / grown up words. Awesome.

A guy I went to school with called me on New Years Day, 10 years after we graduated. Said he was working his way thru the whole graduating class, 1 grad a year, always on New Years Day. He will be about 128 when he gets done, pretty impressive goal. I think I will call him this year just to see if he is still doing it!

Best friends always click, no matter the time or the distance apart. Good for you.

Awesomeness.

And just to ease your guilt... my maid of honor lives 15 miles away and I MAYBE see her once a year. So stupid. I just saw her last week for the first time in a year.

So I have to know... over lunch... did you show her the buckle??? Oh come on, you know I had to ask.

Jo Lynn said...

You should have had a "now" photo of you two. I did that with my first childhood friend. Took an old photo and then one of the two of us now (5 years ago) and framed them side by side - gave it to her for her 40th birthday. Best present ever! ;)

Karine said...

I hope you took a picture.....Yes?

I see more BFF time together in your future. Do it!

Emz said...

JoLynn. Awesome idea.

Lesley. You bet cha baby!!

Karine. Mom. No. No photo. Totally forgot. :(

I am honored to be in one of your famous posts. I also had such a great time and hope that we can bridge that gap between us and see each other/talk more often. We need to take a picture next time! By the way, I think you weigh just as much as me, but you are like a foot taller! :) Love your BFF

Char said...

Good friends are like that - you may not see them for years but the moment you do it's like the years have never happened. You're lucky to have her.

what a happy day. I love Jason's idea of running to her house for a 'buckle' LOL!

I get it though. Really.
One of my bff's from my youth until my 20's literally lives ONE HOUSE over from me now. I can throw rocks at her house. I could probably pull out my binoculars and see what she is doing at night.

Wanna know how many times we have hung out since Hubbs and I bought this house early last summer.
TWICE> Yup, two stinking times.
AND
she was that Crazy runner girl all over town all the time-would win local races and stuff. Yeah, now that I can keep up with her she goes and gets pregnant. She's due anytime.
Hmmm. I should walk on over today and say hi. Thanks for the push.

Emz said...

JL - yes. please. do it!!!!!
