don't answer that.
So a week or so ago my mom informed me there was a write up in the AZ Republic on the WRM I am running in . . . . 5 days. Her text: "I saved it for you to read. Looks REALLY challenging".
understatement.
I kinda over looked the part where you gain 1,800 feet [thought it was 1,200] in the first 7 miles then you do this super awesome [sarcasm] drop of 1,400 feet at mile 13. Yea, I know that should be good but you turn around at 13. I hope I make it to the celebration of life/funeral at 3pm [that same day]. Otherwise, it may be my celebration of life that day too.
Comment I loved in the article, "You're not a runner until you do Whiskey Row". [says who?] I'm guessing a PR would be a complete laughing matter.
oh man, needing some encouragement here folks.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.... hopefully it won't kill you. How's that for encouragement? ;)
It'll be an experience, to say the least!
Hard is what makes it Great!
Or, as your Tri blogger buddies will say, HTFU buttercup ... hehehe (I get that one a lot on my blog).
here's your encouragement: drop out. that's what i'd do.
I will go ahead and say it, 3200 ft in 26.2 miles sucks. No easier way to put it.
I am from Arizona, Mesa is where I lived for over half my life, has it hit 100 yet? I dont miss miss May thru September at all.
oh sweetie! You can do this. This will make you sooo hard core!
Wow! That sounds super tough! I bet you are ready! Have you been hill training? good to know you will be a REAL runner when you finish! Guess i need to do it so I cann be a REAL runner!! =)
You'll do awesome!
You can do it! Of course, I can't really say that based on experience because me? I can't do it. I would probably vomit within the first 5 minutes.
EEK! Guess I'm not a runner then. Seriously you can do it, it may get a little 'interesting' but hey you'll have the stories forever.
I like Jeff's comment...hard is what makes it great.
You can do it! You will do fantastic!
maybe you are supposed to enjoy whiskey prior to the run and then it's like the whole thing is downhill
I guess I should re-think my "runner" blog! I'm not great with with catchy sayings... but I do know that if this is something you really want to do, you will do it or regret not doing it. Take your time and enjoy your accomplishment of it.
Well - after this marathon most of the others will be "a piece of cake". For years, I have been avoiding challenging courses, trying to BQ. Now that I have done that I am excited to give some of the hilly ones a try. It started in Boston, but I also want to do Big Sur, Mt. Desert in Maine, and maybe this one, after you give us a report.
You are tough! You can do it for sure. Good Luck!
Whoa, that's some kind of crazy altitude, but you are going to do great! You're a strong runner!
Thanks for visiting my blog and the comment. Hope your marathon went well. I pretty much hate hills in marathons. Come to think of it I hate them all together.
what amy said. i have several friends who did that marathon as their first. it was also their last:). they weren't seasoned though and they don't have your abs. you'll be fine. great abs make everything do-able.:)
This is the type of marathon that makes for a GREAT story and blog post...and YOU WILL survive. You're tough and you're putting all that "didn't into Boston nor NYC" juju into this marathon. Chew it up and spit it out...be tough, hit it hard and be a stud...and we will be here for you afterwards!!! I'm totally excited for you!
I used to live in Prescott, you'll do great! It may be a little tough, but YOU CAN DO IT! :)
like i said before. it looks whack. just drop out and do something else. is that motivating enough for you??? :)
ok jk. you're gonna be greeeeeaaaaaat.
You ARE a runner and you will rock this! ...sure, it won't be easy, but you'll love telling us all about it :) You will embody hard-core!!
Jeff - loving that comment
Amy - amy - amy: not a chance.
BBD-not yet!! yay!!
5 miles: technically no - just treadmill inclines [yep, now I am freaking out]
Amanda - hilarious. that visual cracks me up.
Meg - your comment totally motivates me. thank you.
THANK YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
suck it up soldier! haha you will be great. You might not PR, but I'm sure you'll finish, and thats what really matters. You could be sitting at home eating bonbons and doing nothing amazing, but you chose to run this and you will and you will do your best. And at the end of the day you will have much better stories to tell because you're out there doing the damn thing. Plus if you don't do it all your followers will find out and how embarrassing would that be? ;) Good luck!
Why am I feeling "anxious" about this race, and I am only going to watch/cheer you on?
Good luck, Emz. Please don't try to win this one...just enjoy the run.
WOW! Just know, you are the runner I want to be when I grow up. You will be dazzling.
