This is a "proud" Mom hacking into Emz's Blog to share an email that kind of wraps up the feelings of one sister to another:
Because I don't know how to blog...
Here is what I would say if I had a blog--or if I knew how to post to your blog:
I’ve had this thought often: Do we really have the same genes? My little sister is so driven and ambitious, so outgoing and confident, so beautiful and talented… How can it be???
One thing about me is that even though I may hesitate to commit to big things (like running a marathon!), once I commit, I WILL do it. So, after saying, “Yes” to the marathon, I knew I needed to get to work—and I knew I needed lots of guidance. It’s not very often that I put complete confidence in someone else; I’m a rather cautious person. But I trusted my new coach. Before and after every long run, I would check in with her. I did everything she told me to do because I believed her! Even when she told me to sit in my freezing cold pool for 15 minutes, I did it—BECAUSE she told me to. So, during the marathon, even when my thinking became a little frazzled and doubt started to enter in, if she told me to do something, I’d do it without question: Eat this! OK! Drink that! OK! Run faster! OK!?! (I’m trying, really!!) So, when she told me to “pass those guys,” I had to do it!
Now I have “my marathon” behind me—and the funny thing is that all I keep hearing in my head is, “If only I had put better songs on my iPod…”; “If only I turned the music up louder so I couldn’t hear the wind…”; “If only I had trained a little longer and harder…” I understand it now when my little sister gets down on herself after running an amazing race—because she thinks she could’ve done better.)
…I guess we really ARE sisters! :) Thank goodness!!! Now I just hope that some of her other qualities will show up in me someday!
I love you EMZ!
From "A"
I know our whole family enjoyed witnessing this experience between two sisters. Even though only 2 ran the race, it was truly a "family affair". Here's hoping to more experiences like this!!!!

The family who runs together, stays together. Very touching.
great post! I thought this line was hilarious "Eat this! OK! Drink that! OK! Run faster! OK!?!" Sounds like you and your sister have a great relationship and the race went awesome. Hopefully you run together again!
Awwwww! Proud sis of the two marathoners . . . Fine! Ya'll looked like you were having so much fun, how about I will TRY the 5K next year. Be easy on me--I don't believe that I inherited the running gene that you two did! :)
Love you both!
Just perfect!
Your family sounds just too cool for words! I always knew I was missing out by not having any siblings. I surely hope my kids will be as bonded as you and your sis are :)
This is so incredibly sweet! :)
That's just beautiful. I've got 4 sisters and I know how strong the bond of sisterhood is and how those bonds are embedded right down to your genes.
Tears.
Love this post.
7am and I can feel the tears already. I am so proud of Em for being there every step of the way and I'm so proud of A for taking that leap of faith.
Now to A nothing is impossible and I love that.
Dreams were meant to be achieved. Dream it and then do it.
Both of you dreamed this, you did it and now you have a lifetime full of memories to share with the entire family.
Fantastically Awesome!
Congrats to A on her marathon. Shouldn't she get an additional medal for having to put up with EMZ all these years. Ditto for the parents!
Loved this post.
Tearing up over here!!!
This made me choke up. I loved it. This is what running is about. Family and community.

Congrats on becoming a marathoner
Ahhh and welcome to the joy of ice baths (cold pool), you hate to do them, but they somehow magically works
Now, who knew that Emz trains like Jillian Michaels, I might to hire her now to train me to get better on the run.
Dear EMZ and A,
Loved this post. You did an awesome job and had a pretty amazing marathon. Don't let your perception of that change by thinking of things you could have done different. You freaking rocked it. You do have a pretty amazing sister EMZ. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. Running is so much more than just putting one foot in front of the other. This post is what it's all about or what it can be about if you let it.
To the rest of the family: It never goes unnoticed to me that you show up and support your daughter(s) at her races. Maybe that seems like a normal thing to do but that support is so helpful. You guys all rock.
Nice work,
Adrienne
