"Man! I Feel Like A Woman!" - Shania Twain

Yes.  It can happen.  Even after the not so pretty moments of Sunday's race.

And yes, EVEN after my totally grown up birdie flip-off.

This morning I am feeling like a woman.

Why?

Well, because of this:

I was lucky enough to be able to review this skirt from "Go Girl Sport". [and meet "S" at the expo in Tucson!]

Now.  Please know .......

I am guilty.

I am.

I always tell others how much I love the skirts they wear.  And in all honesty, I do.  But when it comes to me [personally] wearing one . . . . My little judgement fairy in my brain whispers, "but no one will take you seriously Emz, if you wear a skirt when you run."

[deep sigh]

I. said. I. was. guilty.

I.
received.
I.
ran.

I.
Love.
It.

All. Of. It.

The one I received is the "tuxedo skort" .

I have worn it on three runs [prior to this review].  Longest run of the three was eight miles.

Truth be told, I was concerned about the inner lining.

Even though the item description said:

Don't save this skirt for a black tie event! The Tuxedo Skort is great for racing, hiking or kickin' it at the gym - and destined to be a staple in your athletic wear wardrobe. This flattering design features a low rise waistline with a wide band to keep things smooth. Front and back mesh panels will keep you cool and pique the interest of those around you. Attached 3" inseam boy short has offset seams, sewn outward to avoid chafing.

I was still a little concerned about the "chaffing" as the fabric didn't hug my legs very tight  - - - but no chaffing.  awesome.

It.
was.
awesome.

The Pita gave me flack about it, when it arrived [as was expected - he knew of my feeling towards skirts].

But it "passed".

Yes. It. EVEN, passed. the. Pita. test . . . .
 . . .
 . . .

which, well, let's say . . . . does NOT happen very often.

happy.  emz.

Now, to forward a little love on to you . . .

Happy Thursday!

i denied the skirt for a long time too, it just didn't feel like a runners outfit... then I tried it and now I love them! however i wear the one's with spanks, the shorts always seem to ride up on the one's i've tried.

funny ... I feel like a woman too ... I wonder if it's hormonal?

Is that plant like that always...or is it just happy to see you in the skirt?

Uber cute! I had the same fear when running skirts first came out. I used to think that real runners don't wear skirts. FALSE! Real runners wear whatever they want as long as they run. You just happen to look cuter if you're wearing a skirt :)

Get yo' cute on!

abbi said...

Yay! I've tried the skirts and actually love them but honestly still feel a little odd wearing where there are lots of others around still!

Cute! I love skirts just because they come in fancier fabrics than shorts :-)

I'm sure you will always be taken seriously as a runner with your speed.

Petraruns said...

You look WONDERFUL in that skirt / skort thingie.. I like how in the description it says you, or rather your mesh panels, will "pique the interest of those around you".... and? Was it so? Did everyone say "OMG those mesh panels?"

I have one skort and I love it. Someone once heckled me at a race - she said "I bet you wear make-up with that". I don't - but I chicked her anyway...

Uber cuteness. It's funny, I ran in skirts at first and then got out of them and now everyone's wearing them and I'm like eh... they look cute on you but not on me. My big problem is my hips... they are wide compared to my waist so all the skirts ride up, just like all my shorts do. But I guess a skirt doesn't show camel toe so perhaps I should revert back? LOL!

That skirt looks adorable! I will have to check it out!

Molly said...

that's cute, it doesn't really look like a running skirt. and if you want to go for the tux look, you're all set for New Years : )

Amber said...

So cute and very slimming. I need me one of those.

Patrick Mahoney said...

I got nothing. Please accept this as evidence I did visit and read though.

EMZ I totally agree - I love skirts on other people but I can't get on the bandwagon myself. Maybe if I could "try" one out before purchasing it would help.... but I love my BCG running tights and just can't give them up..... maybe one day I'll look like a female when I run but until then the blonde ponytail will have to do!

i'm liking the look of the skirt. gonna have to buy one. :)

emz - what was the time of the top female runner in the marathon?

Emz said...

Termite- 2:56:11.
Come next year?!? :)

Rae said...

Love it! I don't have a running skirt yet...but I love how they look on the ladies who wear them. I think they look fab! Way to rock it!

TRI714 said...

Do they come in Catholic school plaid ?

Emz said...

Tri. - Nice tri. No. Only "classy-classic" black. :) For. Now. Anyway.

Marlene said...

If anyone can be taken seriously in a tuxedo running skirt, it is YOU!

Stacie said...

Love the skirt. I can't imagine anyone not taking you seriously with abs like yours. If they do lip off, knock em out with your buckle.

i definitely will be there next year. i had found the results online - really fantastic times for the female runners.
i'm hitting the road tomorrow to fly out to Long Beach, Calif. for their "Seasons Greetings Marathon" - it's suppose to be a fast course. keep your fingers crossed. :)

I don't have one yet...same reasons you did not have one...when I see them I like them but the first thing that comes to my mind is Tennis...maybe it is just me though...

I wannnnnnnnnnnt one. If only it wasn't snowing and we hadn't just spent a ton of moolah in London on Monday...

ps. How much for your legs?

RunningLaur said...

1. I can't believe Morgan referenced cameltoe. Made me laugh.
2. Looks cute! Glad it didn't chafe, I've been hit or miss with skirt success, but that happens with shorts too...

Emz said...

Termite - will be thinking of you! ROck it girl!!!

Caroline - I know. I agree. And I swear--this one rocks NOT because I got to review it. I seriously love it.

Kelly - hilarious girl. Your pressie is in the mail.

RL - mogan's. Comment. Awesome. How did I miss that one coming in?! [working off my phone today :(]

I know you were posting about the skirt (and it is super cute) but all I saw was the blacked out bling on your finger.

why? just wondering.

racing dawn said...

I've got a nike running skirt but it hasn't passed the test...

I'm thinking you are feeling like a woman because your legs are now functioning post-race... and because of the skirt too... :)

April said...

I love it! Believe me..you could wear a snow suit running and people would still take you serious as a runner! You are a rockstar!
I love racing in a skirt. Though I usually wear the ones with just a brief underneath.

misszippy said...

You look fab, but you always do!

I have a black skirt and I do wear it here and there..not really for racing though. Seems strange to do that, even though plenty do.

Laurie said...

I pretty much wear skirts exclusively in the summer but even so I still feel kind of goofy doing it. I have no real need to "feel sexy" or "like a girl" while I'm running but I do like a lot of things about running in them.

And, like everyone else said, you could run in anything and be taken seriously... you're THAT cool.

Char said...

Really, really cute.

Emz said...

MAN..... not sure what's up with your computer screens or if it's just egg-nog season . . . but keep drinking it. [and LMK where I send your blackmail gifts]

RDawn - hilarious.

MissZ - I agree. However, I may have to try it in my 1/29 marathon with my sister. seems worth trying. ;) Just need to get my sister one [got to be twins, right?!]

Julie @ HotlegsRunner said...

I have yet to try out mine at my next race event. Hmmm...but looking at your photo, I think I should pass the crown to you. HOT LEGS, Emz! Woot =)

I've been so hesitant to try the running skorts...you may have pushed me over the edge though! thanks for the review :) xoxo {av}

Can I BQ in this and my new red shoes? What a finish line pic that would be and imagine the announcer at the end when I crossed if this years DWR announcer couldn't handle it.

Emz said...

Jason. I. Triple. Dog. Dare. You. Come on! BQ like a man!

Jason said...

You BQ like the man, I just want to BQ.

But how cool would it be to cross in a kilt with the ruby reds and a PRR skull tech shirt....that's it all my race events are going to be run that way.

Now where can I get a kilt for the winter?

Emz said...

YOU had me at PRR.

seriously is there a fan club, I could be a member of?

Kill. the. kilt.

RockStarTri said...

The PITA test for a tuxedo skort.....mmmmm......does he have the legs to rock it or does it make his A$$ look fat?

Was HE concerned about the liner?

2 Slow 4 Boston said...

I share your original opinion about wearing a running skirt: It looks good on you, but for me, no one would take me seriously.

DRog said...

It looks fast !!! Is it in play for RnR? or would you go with your bread and butter

I tried new for TCM - not so good for me

how YOU doin'?

LB said...

i heart skirts!!! but me NO likey skirts with boy shorts, no matter how long they are or how "chafe free" they claim to be, they always ride up and cause the pigs to chafe. i prefer skirts with briefs and lots of body glide, no extraneous fabric to deal with.

Anonymous said...

Love skirts, but all brands are different and you definitely have to find the one that works for you. With those abs, I doubt anyone will harrass you about the skirt!

The Turtle said...

You look so great in your skirt!

Unknown said...

yep, my hubby gets the final approval here too. I tried two pairs of shorts that I didn't even run in because Jaymon said they made my butt look funny right after I put them on for the first time.

That skirt...is really cute!

Aimee said...

I'm so jealous that you got one of those skirts to try out! It's so cute on you!!

Tortuga_Runner said...

Love running in skirts. I am not a girly girl and skirts help me fake it.

Laura said...

Hey, just stumbled on your blog. I have not tried a running skirt yet because I to have thought, "How could they not chafe?"

But what I really want to know is HOW DID YOU GET THOSE ABS????

Quinton J said...

Haha J...and a little dog named Toto under your arm.

Matty O said...

I don't think I would have ever pictured you running in a skirt... Somehow I have the same views as you.

But if it passed the Pita test... I guess it works then right?

BTW, does PITA stand for Pain In The Ass? Just curious :)

Emz said...

MO - I know. I know. & ummmm - heck ya, it does. ;)

Caratunk Girl said...

I have to admit, I have always had the same views you did...I think they look great on everyone..else. ha ha...But have been tempted to try it, like in secret where no one can see me so I can get used to the idea of people seeing me running in a skirt. ha ha

Seriously, great review - and the skirt looks awesome on you - I will definitely try one sometime.

Sherri said...

VERY Cute!
i have never tried one!

The Hungry Runner Girl said...

That looks absolutely adorable on you!!! I am getting one in the mail soon and I thought the same thing...no one will take you seriously but now that I know you love it I am pretty sure I will love it:)

I rejected the running skort idea for about 5 years now... and just this past weekend I was working out on the treadmill at my dad's gym, facing my reflection in the plated glass. Suddenly, I couldn't get the idea of wearing a skirt OUT of my head! Seeing my reflection running made me think that maybe a skort would be more flattering than my shorts that constantly hiking up. :)

Thanks for the code -- might just have to give these a try since they've been on my mind!

xoxo,
A

P/s: isn't Ron awesome? He's pretty much my not-so-secret idol, too. :)

Super cute... says "I'm a girl, but I'll still kick your ass". :)

I'm going to check them out. I was going to sample and review one for runningskirts.com and they totally failed me. BOO!

I have tried the skirt, even got a freebie for helping with the Skirt Chaser this past summer. Um, I just look like a toadstool. But you, you look AWESOME!!

Annie said...

Even as a slave to fashion I have never been able to get into the running skirt. I might have to try one now.........
