Cry or laugh?

You decide.

Both?  Liar.

I'd seen this before and to be honest, I really didn't think it was funny...it hurt to watch...

Okay, I laughed when she was doing the cowboy walk but then I got a little teary-eyed because those poor women were hurting and they were trying so hard. Poor things.

I would be a little ticked at whoever posted this video though because they call it a marathon finish and that was an Iron Man finish and that is way more than a marathon.

ok first I thought the first girl needed to go to the bathroom and do number two. so yeah it was funny. Then when the second girl came in, I sortta felt their pain and I started praying that THAT never happens to me! And I also learned that if my legs fail me, I can actually crawl to the finish line. hehe!

Happy Sunday my dear =)

I think it's funny. Looks like that weekend unplugged is going well. Harder than it sounds huh?

Holy crap! I thought it was funny at first because, like Hotlegs, I thought she was about to mess herself.

Then when I realized what was going on I was just in awe. I just can't even imagine...

I laughed at first....then teared up... what a feat...and Ironman...wow ... I agree with Allie above though... a marathon is nothing to sneeze at but it's an IM finish ..... :)

Happy Sunday!

Funny story on this one. I was at an IM viewing party, sitting next to Joanna Zeiger, who was a pro who had finished not far behind those two that year. And I started laughing my ass off. Trying not to, b/c, well, would that offend her? It was excellent.

And freaky note here--i received that runner t-shirt from your last post in the mail yesterday from a blog win and am wearing it today.

I'm just a big MUSHY. I cried. I've seen those kind of finishes before. It always amazes me how far we are able to push our bodies to accomplish incredible feats!

Cried...no debate for me.

When someone else is hurting....I hurt too!

Kelly - I did great until last night. ;)

Pam. Agreed. I'm w/hotlegs too.

Allie & Allison - seriously. Give credit when credit is due. I'd have been crawling by mile 3 in the IM. Who am I kidding? I'd have died while swimming.

MissZ. Hilarious. Yay on the shirt score!!

I'm not sure if this is funny or not. That said, if it was me crossing the finishing line I'd want you to be laughing with me, but probably not for a few months after.

Emz said...

Carrie & Karine - you guys rock. Agreed. Why was I crying then laughing at the same time?! I'll blame it on the pita. [my random mood swings]. ;)

Emz said...

Patrick - agreed. Yikes. Agree w/you. ?! What the......?!?! ;)

Oh my goodness. So painful! I'm neither laughing or crying - I'm cringing and holding my legs.

I know. Crazy.

I wanted to cry. And I agree with Allie. One of the first things I thought was that finishing an IM is way more than finishing a marathon.

And your comment to Carrie and Karine ... hmmm. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it made me smile.

totally teared up and then vowed that i would never cross a finish line like that.

I'm with the majority- no laughing here. Poor women, such strength.

That was real? It almost looks choreographed the way they are both falling down repeatedly, which did make me laugh. Also, at first I thought it was a race for disabled people because of the way the first lady looked.

I laughed which is s sure sign that it will happen to me sometime, probably at the end of a neighborhood 5K.

I laughed but at the same time admire them for pushing themselves to such limits. I can just imagine the pain...

Emz said...

RTP - loooooooove your comment. Awesome.

Both - it was a little funny when lady #1 saw lady #2 crawl and copied. Yep, that was a good idea.

ajh said...

I didn't think I was going to do either but when they started crawling I laughed. I didn't know it was an Ironman until I read the comments. That is determination.

I've watched this before... it's hard not to cringe!

sorry, i laughed. :D i've been running competitively for 25 years now and i've seen it all. and though i've never done the crawl across the finish line, i've certainly had my share of tears as i did so.

it's never good to laugh at anyone when they're in pain, but i guarantee in months from now, they both will get a little chuckle out of this.

LauraLynne said...

cried. I've felt that way before. But not after an Ironman - not yet. I can only dream to be that spent.

Anonymous said...

You're right. Both.

Thank God that they didn't start that until that close to the finish... can't imagine what their knees would've looked like if they had to crawl the last half mile.

yah..this Ironman Finish is a seminal classic. and i didn't cry or laugh but always just watch in awe...

Tom said...

Both-Not knowing the story behind the finish, I was inclined to laugh, but if they just finished an Iron Man, then they have my respect. I almost look that exhausted just finishing a marathon. I'd be on death's doorstep if I attempted what they just finished.

Adrienne said...

Ironman would be so hard. I didn't laugh or cry just thought "ya, I'm not ever doing that :)"

Silly Girl Running said...

A bit of both! Respect!

Unknown said...

while that cowboy trot does look a bit odd--it's an IM so nothing but mad respect and awe.

TriEric said...

This is one of the most classic Ironman finishes ever. Sian Welch and Wendy Ingraham in 1997. Complete and total bonk. Talk about leaving it all on the course.

Kera said...

sort of laughed, and then got really sick to my stomach.

Jamie said...

Wow. I'm not sure what to think. Sure of heck do not want to do an ironman now. Jeez, that looked painful!

i cried!

Both. I laughed when I first saw the second woman, I thought it was some kind of joke, like she was trying to sneak up behind the first woman and scare her with her crazy alien spider run. Once I figured out what was going on, I cried. But I loved that the first woman saw the second one crawling and was like, "yeah, I'll do that too, we'll finish this thing!"

The Boring Runner said...

Eeek. That was rough to watch. I wasn't sure what was up with them at first....but then it became all to apparent.

am i the only person that was laughing aloud at her desk? whoops!
