Pour Some Sugar On me

The Pita stayed home yesterday do laundry[nope], do the ironing[nope], watch Top Gear on the DVR[yep], be with me yesterday [I think, yes] ---- okay, fine probably just to get his 2.5 hour workout in.

One conversation went like this:

P: So what do you want to do today?
Me: Uhh, get better.
P: Let's go somewhere.
Me: like?
P: to look at cars.
Me: Ya, I'm sure that'll help.
P: You're not very nice today.
Me: I'm sick.  See the temp [not good], hear me [I sound like a phlegmy 80 year old smoker], smell me [just kidding-I'm a showeraholic especially when I'm sick]
P: "Pour some sugar on" you! [we are a rare breed [couple] who can converse exclusively using song titles, we are just special like that.]
Me: "Every rose has it's thorn"
P: But you are my "wild thing".... you make my heart sing.
Me: fine . . "pass the Dutchie" - let's go.

It was a nice distraction until about noon when I thought my head and lungs were about to blow.

I mean look at this Panamera Turbo. [drool]

So it was back home for me and off to the doctor.  Ya, I guess I do need those antibiotics after all.  2pm I get there.  "Ummmm, honey your appointment is at 3pm".

I was too pissed at her calling me honey to even care about the time problem.
Seriously.  If you are a woman, don't ever call me "honey. The only exception is if your hair is silver/white or if you are a parent of mine.  I HATE, HATE, HATE being called "honey".

Anyway.

Wasn't about to sit there for an hour so I did what all good, kind, considerate sick people would do. . . . . . . went to buy running shoes.

Where I met "Andy" who will be joining me [sorta] at the Man Vs Horse race in October.

Andy:  will it be your first trail run? [we had just finished the 15 minute talk about my "treadmill running"]
Me:  Kinda.  I did do the Whiskey Row Marathon but don't worry, I KNOW it's not the same type of trail.
Andy: The 25 will be challenging.
Me: Well, I'm doing the 50.
Andy: [nope nothing-just the look]

waiting
waiting
waiting

Andy: you are doing the 50? [yes, there was an emphasis on the "you" that I did not enjoy]
Me: You bet cha.  Show me the buckle! [big warm, sickly smile.]
Andy: wow.  I'll uhhh make sure to look for you.
Me: ya! It'll be fun to show you my buckle.  [I'm joking-I didn't say that . . . .]
Me {revised}:  You think I'm "done for", don't you?
Andy: I'll be really impressed.

Uggg. Whatever. He better not have sold me the "wrong" shoes. ;)

Note to self [never shop under the influence of Nyquil]

I am dying to try these out!!!

Now for a drum roll . . . . I have . . . . . walking pneumonia.  awesome.  He said I could call it running pneumonia if it made me feel better.

Remember, for some the 50 is THE GRAND ILLUSION, but hey, you are STONE COLD CRAZY not to mention THE WARRIOR. So get better and get your ass back on the training trail, otherwise if you fall down after 25, you'll say it CUTS LIKE A KNIFE...

Jamoosh you are such a FUNKY COLD MEDINA.

loved that. hate being nice to you but......awesome.

Adrienne said...

Don't listen to Andy. Andy who? Seriously. I hope you really aren't "dying" to try your shoes. Stay in bed and get better.

P.S. The top right shoes are mine and I like em. I run trails in them too and they are just great. Hope they work for you.

Whenever peeps get you down just remember "I WILL SURVIVE"

"Sugar Pie Honey Bunch" I think you are crazy haha. THREE pairs of shoes?!?! Wowzers!!!

Strangely enough, I agree 100% with hating "honey" or "sweetie". I get that from people all the time, the best was when I got a milkshake from steak and shake last week and this girl called me sweetie. Yeah, she HAD to be 8-10 years YOUNGER than me!!! YOU HAVEN'T LIVED LONG ENOUGH TO EARN THE RIGHT TO CALL ME SWEETIE!

That being said, major bummer on the sickness. What the heck is walking pneumonia? Gonna google that one. Nothing worse than getting sick right at the peak of training.

Hang in there girl. Try not to go crazy resting (if I know you at all I be you are going nutso).

Yuck on the walking pneumonia! Glad you went to the doc. And 3 pairs of shoes! You go girl! :)

So flame that you are THAT sick... hope you're back at it soon and have a quick recovery. Btw, completely agree with the "honey" deal. Last week had a friggin' KID from Starbucks call me "hon" when she handed me my drink. Are you kidding me? If I was pregnant when I was 12, I COULD BE YOUR MOTHER!

I hope you get better soon

and I want to sit on your couch, eat popcorn and just watch the three of you through out the day, I have a feeling it is high quailty entertainment

Feel better soon...I hate people calling me honey too.

Walking pneumonia - that sucks. Hope you're on the mend quickly. I'm fairly convinced that new running shoes are the proper prescription for most any ailment. Unfortunately I don't think my wife shares my viewpoint.

Sounds to me like Andy is intimidated.

Here's some songs to work into your next conversation:

- If The Phone Don't Ring, You'll Know It's Me.
- How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away?
- I'm Still Missing You Baby, But My Aim's Gettin' Better.
- I'm So Miserable Without You, It's Like You're Still Here.
- My Wife Ran Off With My Best Friend And I Sure Do Miss Him
- She Got The Ring And I Got The Finger
- I Hate Every Bone in Your Body, Except Mine

That's a lot of shoes. And you can totally do a 50, Andy doesn't know what he's talking about. At Runner's Den we just hired one of the Coury brothers (of Javelina Jundred Organizers fame) - I don't think we'd bat an eye at you mentioning the 50, just encourage the madness.

Marlene said...

You'll show that Andy guy, YES YOU WILL!

Pneumonia?!? YIKES! Get better soon, honey. (Totally kidding... on the honey part!)

NICE kicks! Those Saucony's sure are pretty!

Heather said...

ugh! walking pneumonia!! horrible. so sorry. hope you get some rest and recover quickly. I don't like that Andy guy...who does he think he is?...

Jenny said...

Running pneumonia? Oh, honey - whoops, I mean sweetie - whoops, I mean Emz. That is serious suckage.

So, when you chick Andy and he is eating your awesome trail dust, you can be the better woman and condescend to tell him that he did a wonderful job. But be sure to wear the awesome buckle any time you *might* see him. Or everywhere. Whatevs.

Totally jealous of your 3 new pairs of shoes. I just need 2 new pairs. For, you know, the treadmill running I am being forced to do.

Run on. Well, once the hacking and temp go away.

I actually don’t mind being called honey. I’ve been called MUCH worse…just this morning. In fact, you can ALL call me honey. I’m thinking of changing my blog from q on the move to honey on the move.

And 3 flippin’ pairs of shoes? Really? I’m pretty sure Beyonce doesn’t even buy 3 pairs of shoes at a time.

yeah, well...I had someone tell me he didn't think I would ever qualify for Boston....I showed him. (Boston 2010 - check) Go girl!

Hope you are better really FAST.

I started rotating shoes 3-4 pairs of shoes last fall and realized I get much more mileage out of them by doing that. Costly up front, but saves $$'s in the end.

Aimee said...

Firs of all, screw Andy! You are going to do awesome!
Secondly, nice shoes! I can't wait to hear how you like them. I would like to take up trail running too, so someday I'll be in the market for trail shoes.
Third, I cannot beieve you have walking pn! Ugh! I hope you feel better soon!

Sarah said...

I'm going to write a song called "Hey, Remember that Time You Made Me Go Car Shopping with Walking Pneumonia?" for future conversations involving song titles. ;-P

I hope you're better soon! Take it easy.

Jill said...

GET BETTER SOON!! I had a runner friend with that and they were out for awhile...did the doc give you a time-frame to get back on the road???? And I totally love those blue Saucony shoes, I think I need them too! And I'm not even doing a 50 - at least not this year. btw, the CC coach I work with got a kill belt buckle in the Leadville 100 this past weekend. Just sayin'.

I have that reaction to being called "young lady." A LOT of the older folks around here (mostly men) use that term and I FREAKIN' HATE IT! Probably because that's what my mom always called me when I was in trouble when I was a little girl.

SWEET CAR.

Hope you feel better soon Emz!

Hey which Brooks shoes are those? I am addicted to Brooks shoes.

I am doing wear testing for brooks right now and am currently testing the Brooks Ghost GTX4. It is a gortex shoe for running in the rain and snow. So you can see why I am testing this particular shoe living in Houston during August -- makes perfect sense right? Um - if that shoe is a Ghost send me an email!

Sucky - feel better soon!

Show that bastard Andy your buckle after you bury him on your 50. Punk. He doesn't know anything about how awesome you are going to do. The Running Pneumonia must have thrown him off. Seriously, I hope you feel better soon!

I love the Ravenna!!

You can't have too many sneakers or too many Porshe's. The 4 door makes it perfect for a family vehicle. (Note I tried this on my wife but it didn't work).

Walking pneumonia?! No wonder why you feel terrible. Glad you saw the doctor. I had it and delayed seeing a doctor (because I thought I could doctor myself) and ended up hospitalized with it several years ago.

On the other hand, having 3 pairs of new shoes would've made me feel better (albeit temporarily). Nice!

Johann said...

That sounds terrible but just looking at those shoes will make you better. Take care!

Claudia said...

Hope you feel better soon!!
Would have loved to see 'Andy's' face when you told him you where doing the 50, priceless I bet!!

Allie said...

Hey Honey, let me know if buying 3 pairs of shoes cures you of your illness because I will totally try to use that next time I'm sick.

Emz said...

Allie - it was well . . .a success but . . . next post will explain a little better. ;)

Allie said...

I guess since you're my GF it doesn't bother you when I call you Honey, sweet!

Ooooh, pretty shoes!! I want them all. Did they make you feel better?

You poor thing. KEEP RESTING!

Kelly Leigh said...

Oh man I hope you feel better soon! I just got back in England yesterday and I think I picked something up on the plane :( Those shoes look pretty cool and I'm sure you'll be using them to smoke Mr. Andy on big race day. Also, in England "honey" is the least of my problems with name calling. We've got "my love" and "darling" which aren't at all cute especially when coming out from a crooked tooth smile from an old british dude.
