"New Perspective" - Panic! At The Disco

What we see depends mainly on what we look for. ~John Lubbock

[feely post today . . . . . it's selfish . . . . it's for me to look back on from time to time]

I received a text from a dear friend of mine this afternoon.  I felt a smile come across my face just seeing her name appear on my phone.

She was "checking in" with me.
Asking how I had been.
Saying she missed seeing me.
What I had going on.
What was up next for me.

I told her.

And

then asked the same of her. . . . . "How have you been?"

[Let me interject here and say . . . . if you even spent 2 minutes with this woman - - you would FEEL her strength.  She is not "wishy-washy" in anything she does.

Not. a. thing.]

She then told me in not so many words of an event that had recently occurred in her life.

I immediately had huge tears in my eyes.

Yes, I was sad with and for her. [for sure].  I told her this.  Asked if I could do anything & that I was here for her.

but

what moved me was her strength & her perspective.

 . . . . .

 . . . . . .

It's so easy to become discouraged.

Life, family, relationships, injuries, outside influences, etc.

but. our. individual. perspective. is. everything.

If the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail. ~Abraham Maslow

I am . . .

. . . . thankful for my niece Emma today.  Happy 10th Birthday!
. . . . grateful Peanut gets moments like this with the Pita.

. . . most "worry free" when I'm doing this:

not racing . . . just running.

. . . . Happy my friend is home from her 3 week vacation.
. . . . Happy I get to have lunch with "happy" today.
. . . . thrilled Peanut is [finally] loving volleyball.

. . . . a woman who has been challenged beyond what I thought I was capable of handling.  I may be a little stronger than I thought after all. ;)
. . . . always more content after I've had my morning chat/visit with Peanut.

. . . . happy that I have brother & sisters.
. . . . sad that Peanut doesn't.
. . . . Blessed to have my Peanut.
. . . . getting a [super] sweet arm band from "Q".  awesome.  I'm sending him Rhubarb pie.  Pretty sure he's getting the raw end of that deal.
. . . . stoked that I won/was right [as usual] ; ) and that the Pita lost the bet and had to bring in all the Costco carts, in two rows which equaled 3 trips . . . . looking like he was an employee [minus the sweet beeping mechanical machine]

. . . . happy he doesn't read my blog.
. . . . hoping my pace partner for my Top of Utah Marathon doesn't back out on me!!  Come on W!  Crank it up!
 . . . . loving my new kicks

I'm sure [sarc-mark] they'll do great things for my running form and core.

Happy Hump Day.  I love Wednesday's.

98 and ¾ percent guaranteed

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)

*I just love these lines [above] from Dr. Seuss's "Oh! The Places you'll go!"

I mean seriously, if you ever want to try and make sense of a struggle in your life . . . read a children's book.  I'm thinking this would be a pretty great book to read every morning before even getting out of bed.

I'll surely be reading this Saturday night before my marathon.

Here are my favorite parts [parts that are most pertinent to me today]

Today is your day.

You’re off to Great Places!

You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.

You’ll look up and down streets. Look’em over with care. About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.”
With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you’re too smart to go down a not-so-good street.

Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you.
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed. You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t.

Because, sometimes, you won’t.

I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.

You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch. And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.
You’ll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump. And the chances are, then, that you’ll be in a Slump.

And when you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.

You will come to a place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked. A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin! Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in? How much can you lose? How much can you win?

And if you go in, should you turn left or right…or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite? Or go around back and sneak in from behind? Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.

Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.

I’m afraid that some times you’ll play lonely games too. Games you can’t win ‘cause you’ll play against you.
All Alone!

Whether you like it or not, Alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot.
You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)

Kid, you’ll move mountains!

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting.

So…get on your way!
