I have been wearing these shoes everywhere for the last few weeks.
I know. I know.
Running shoes are for running.
But . . .
When I test something out, I figure they need to truly BE put to the test.
For example:
Can they hold their own at the Costco pump? check
Can they help me carry a 9 pound ham to my car? check
Can they withstand my 94 minutes [a week] I make myself strength train & stretch? check
Can they help me get Peanut to school? check
Can they help me not to speed in my car? [when I'm the carpool mom....]check
Can they make it through a 21+ mile run on the Treadmill? check
Can they make the crusty old racquetball guy NOT change his shirt in the middle of the gym? dang... no
Overall I can tell you, honestly, that my feet are in heaven in these shoes.
Added bonus is that they come in like 87 different colors. Okay, 21, actual colors. It's the little
Peanut actually chose mine. I get comments on them 7.44 out of every 10 places I go. Love the bright spring/summer color. L o v e.
They only weigh 7.2 oz which means you aren’t carrying as much weight around as you would with a normal running shoe which for me = more energy used towards speed [I need every freaking ounce I can get.]!

I've had NB shoes before that were great. I'm running in Asics right now, but they aren't nearly that pretty so I'd be stoked to try a pair out. Also could use a pair for my boy (and his ever growing feet)! Be a tough choice on who would get the shoes. He and his dad are both NB devotees.

Oooh! I'm about due for a new pair of shoes for marathon (or shhh...maybe 50K) training--worried about ramping up the miles too much in my Kinvaras, but loving the lower-drop shoe, so I don't want to just go back to the Brooks Ghosts.

I'll answer both questions! 1. I need some colorful shoes. I always see runners in super cool feet decorations and look at my dumpy gray shoes and get sad. Plus, I like ham and if these shoes improve my ham intake, that's a win. 2. I'd run 5 miles in them like crazy. I'd keep them at my desk for lunch runs, which are typically 5 miles, and be the coolest kid in the cubicle. Good luck me!

New Balance were the first shoes I bought when I started running. I went through several pairs, 7x7 series I think, and then the last ones i got just sucked. They were heavy and made me run on my heels somehow. I didn't like them and got a pair of Brooks instead. I would very much like to find out if these New Balance are for me.

This is a fantastic review. I have been running in the same brand for almost a decade, but a sneaker that has inspired you to write such a glowing review has influenced me to take a chance here! The colorful options are a definite breath of fresh air for a serious pair of running kicks. A 21 mile jaunt on the treadmill is definitely a beating, and if you felt good after that they must be solid. The only drawback is the lack of impact on the crusty old racquetball guy, for shame. As for mileage, maybe this could be the sneaker I run my first ultra wearing. Crazier things have happened. Regardless, great post, excellent review!

I would run 14 miles in them. Why 14, because the longest I've ever run at one time was 13.5 miles in 1988. I ran that distance in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics as a member of the regional police academy graduating class 218. Now, nearly 23 years later, and nearing retirement, I would like to run even farther, just to prove to myself that I still can...

I would love to rock these shoes:) I'm a New Balance junkie! I have the minimus, as i'm working on more minimal running, but I need something to wear on longer runs right now (my toesies hurt during long runs yet.)

I need running shoes so badly! i can't even tell you how many miles I have on mine....not to mention "spinning" miles. Aye! My favorite distance...3 miles right now...but I'm working to increase that! :)
My current shoes are *almost* dead and I am really looking to branch out and try something new. Living in the New Balance capital (Boston) has made me really want to try them, but I am jobless, so I have put off spending the money on new shoes. I recently had a failed attempt to wear Addidas shoes which left me with bruises on the tops of my feet and ankle pain.
I am gearing up for a half marathon in two weeks but I really want the NB 890's to train for my first full marathon in almost 3 years. I have decided that my 30th year of life is the time to BQ!
